About the role:
Our Caterpillar Remanufacturing Division is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer for our West Fargo, North Dakota facility. Caterpillar’s Manufacturing Engineer position works both independently and as part of a team to maintain and improve processes and/or systems used in manufacturing. In addition, Manufacturing Engineers function as a specialist and subject matter expert for technical planning throughout a manufacturing facility. You will build your professional network, engage with peers and receive guidance from mentors. This position will focus on assembly process management for our remanufactured drivetrain products within the Reman West Fargo facility.
Job responsibilities will Include but are not limited to:
- Analyze requirements and make recommendations for facility systems, processes, training, equipment needs, and engineering product designs
- Complete both specialized and broad-based assignments / projects which may require collaboration and integration with other functions
- Evaluate projects and prepare feasibility studies to define desired results, assess value proposition and determine project plans
- Analyze, provide specifications and perform acquisition for new or replacement machine tools
- Perform capital forecasting correlation and reporting as it relates to new product introduction, product capacity increases, machine replacement and process continuous improvement
- Perform process improvement activities to reduce material and assembly costs
- Analyze tooling failures and evaluate tool characteristics and requirements
- Support NPI and CPI projects
- Facility implementation support for engineering changes, process changes and capacity changes for assembly
- Improve space utilization in the manufacturing assembly area
- Develop and implement assembly processes in line with Caterpillar standard processes
Skill Descriptors:
- Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Working Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.
- Judgment and Decision Making: Basic Knowledge of the decision-making process; ability to carefully evaluate the impact of emerging business situations and choose the best path forward communicating actions and activities that maximize organizational performance.
- Lean Manufacturing: Basic Knowledge of the philosophy, principles and implementation approaches of lean manufacturing; ability to integrate and implement lean manufacturing philosophy into existing production and management processes.
- Manufacturing Equipment: Basic Knowledge of the electrical, mechanical and logistics equipment used in manufacturing; ability to safely operate, maintain, update and store them.
- Manufacturing Processes: Working Knowledge of existing product manufacturing methods, technologies and processes; ability to execute, plan, manage and monitor the entire manufacturing process.
- Manufacturing Safety: Working Knowledge of manufacturing safety; ability to identify work-related hazards and perform necessary activities to meet regulatory requirements for the safety and protection of workers, environment and site.
- Manufacturing Standards, Procedures and Policies: Working Knowledge of organizational standards, procedures and policies in manufacturing activities; ability to plan, guide, and monitor manufacturing processes for compliance.
- Problem Management Process - MFG: Basic Knowledge of manufacturing problem management processes, methodologies and techniques; ability to use a disciplined approach to bringing that problem to a successful resolution.
Top Candidates Will Have:
- Prior experience working in a drivetrain related manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated complex project implementation involving process modifications, tooling/fixture design, change management plan and process ownership.
- Experience in salvage, disassembly, assembly, and end of line testing.
- SAP, AutoCad, Creo experience.
- Knowledge of APQP principals.
Additional Information:

- 10% will be required for this position.

Summary Pay Range:
$79,800.00 - $119,760.00Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
