Job Summary

We're looking for an awesome School Speech Language Pathologist to join our team. You'll play a crucial role in evaluating and treating students with speech, language, and communication disorders. Your expertise will help create and implement individualized education programs to support each student's unique needs. A passion for making a difference in the lives of students is essential.

Responsibilities

1. Assessment and Diagnosis:

  • Conduct Speech and Language Evaluations: Assess students' speech, language, and communication abilities through various standardized and informal tests.
  • Identify Speech and Language Disorders: Diagnose speech, language, and communication disorders, including articulation, fluency, voice, receptive and expressive language, and social communication disorders.
  • Create Individualized Education Programs (IEPs): Develop and contribute to IEPs based on assessment results and in collaboration with teachers, parents, and other specialists.

2. Intervention and Therapy:

  • Develop Treatment Plans: Design and implement individualized therapy plans to address identified speech and language needs.
  • Provide Direct Therapy: Conduct one-on-one or small group therapy sessions focused on improving speech, language, and communication skills.
  • Monitor Progress: Regularly assess student progress and adjust therapy approaches as needed to ensure effective treatment.

3. Collaboration and Communication:

  • Work with Teachers and Staff: Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and other professionals to support students' speech and language needs in the classroom.
  • Consult with Parents and Guardians: Communicate regularly with parents or guardians about their child's progress, challenges, and strategies for supporting speech and language development at home.
  • Participate in Multidisciplinary Teams: Collaborate with a team of educators, psychologists, and other professionals to address the comprehensive needs of students.

4. Documentation and Compliance:

  • Maintain Records: Keep detailed records of evaluations, therapy sessions, progress notes, and communication with parents and staff.
  • Ensure Compliance with Regulations: Adhere to state and federal laws, school policies, and professional guidelines, including maintaining confidentiality and following ethical standards.
  • Prepare Reports: Provide written reports for IEP meetings, evaluations, and other required documentation.

5. Professional Development:

  • Stay Informed: Keep up-to-date with current research, methodologies, and best practices in speech-language pathology.
  • Attend Workshops and Training: Participate in professional development opportunities, including workshops, seminars, and conferences.
  • Supervise and Mentor: Provide supervision or mentoring to speech-language pathology assistants, interns, or less experienced SLPs, if applicable.

6. Prevention and Education:

  • Conduct Screening Programs: Organize and perform speech and language screenings to identify students who may need further evaluation.
  • Educate School Community: Provide training and resources to teachers, staff, and parents on speech and language development, early identification of disorders, and strategies for supporting students.
  • Promote Communication Health: Advocate for effective communication strategies within the school environment, fostering a supportive atmosphere for students with speech and language needs.
Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology or Communication Disorders
  • Valid state license or certification as a Speech-Language Pathologist
  • Previous experience in a school-based setting is preferred
  • Strong knowledge of speech and language disorders and treatment techniques
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
